So the pigeons called a meeting, and several thousand of them gathered on an empty island in the middle of the river Thames to decide what to do about the humans and their increasingly tall buildings. Pigeons being democratic, speeches were made and the question was put to a vote. A small contingent voted to put up with the humans and share the air. A smaller faction advocated leaving London altogether and finding somewhere less crowded to live. But the vast majority voted to declare war. The villagers, moved to compassion despite their concerns about disease, brought the fallen lady and her companions into the nearest house. They were given water and made comfortable in beds of straw, and a dozen villagers crowded around them offering help. These are a great way to get started into the series, but you don't have to read the series to appreciate the strangeness. Fergus had the power to control the ocean tides, but he was warned by his mother not to reveal it to other people as it would only bring him trouble. In a number of instances, however, Fergus did show his ability, and regretted it each time. He decided to live a life of solitude on the sea soon after, using a house that he had previously swept into the sea and using his peculiarity to catch himself fish. He enjoyed this life for a while until he came across a ship with a girl in it. This girl was also shown to be peculiar, and Fergus ended up staying with her on her ship.

I found the illustrations to be beautiful in this e-book. I would love to see the gold lettering and illustrations in a hardcover. The Girl Who Could Tame Nightmares (5 stars)-This one made me shiver. Plus we got an alternate ending which was straight up horror when you read it. Loved it. The Girl Who Could Tame Nightmares is about Lavinia who pulls threads out of people's ears and keeps them. They end up being a form of pet to her. It's really bizarre and so freaking good.
